Partial Discharge Measurements on High Voltage XLPE Power Cable

By: Adhikari, Neha.
Publisher: New Delhi Journals Pub 2018Edition: Vol.4(1), Jan-June.Description: 9-16p.Subject(s): Electrical EngineeringOnline resources: Click here In: International journals of power electronics controllers and convertersSummary: This article presents the analysis of partial discharge measurement techniques on high voltage XLPE cables. It covers the basics of partial discharge, different types of partial discharges, measurement techniques and experimental analysis under different conditions. To evaluate the degradation of a cable and condition of its insulation, an 11 kV cable sample is selected for the experimental test set up for PD detection and the results are demonstrated under various conditions. An accelerated thermal aging platform is used for analyzing the aging and effect of thermal stress on cable insulation. The results of PD before and after the thermal stress are presented to evaluate its effects.
